IWD2019 - My Influential Ladies
As its IWD2019 I wanted to pay tribute to the women who have helped to shape me into the person that I am today. The first significant female in my life was, quite obviously, my mother who had me when she was just 17.
A single mum, she raised me and my brother, we had very little and it was hard.
We didn't always have a great relationship and there are lots of things she didn't get right but I am the person I am today because of her. She taught me that:
- nothing in life is free, you have to work hard for what you want.
- you need to make the right relationship choices and make sure that you are treated with the love and respect you deserve. She isn't with us today but I just wanted to say thank you and that I love you.
The other ladies I want to mention are my friends. The ladies that have been there for me over the last 30 years or so and that have influenced me massively.
To Ann Marie, my friend and business partner. You have shown me that life happens on the other side of our comfort zone. That being open to opportunities and choosing a growth mindset or a fixed mindset opens up your world to endless possibilities. I have found the courage to start my own business and now I grab new opportunities as they come my way instead of letting them pass me by. Instead of fearing failure I now welcome the challenge.
To Vicky, one of the most caring and giving people I know. You look out for everyone and expect nothing in return. The lady with a heart of gold. You have taught me how to be more humble and caring.
To Elaine, Jo and Suzanne, life long friends of almost 30 years. We have laughed, danced and cried together over the years. You taught me the importance of loyalty and lifelong friendship (and how to party all night long!).
To Nina, you are my crazy sista from another mista. We have had some amazing experiences over the years. You bring out the fun and mischievous side of me.
To Sarah, you taught me about honesty and fairness in business. Your work ethic is incredible and you're an amazing mum.
I love you all so very much. You have brought so much fun into my life and you all keep my sane. Probably at the cost of your own sanity.
