What really happens at a ReBoot Bootcamp?
A lot of people who research and look into going to a fitness retreat often have real misconceptions about what they are like. This is mainly due to what we see day in and day out on social media. Contrary to popular belief there is not a bevvy of lycra clad beauties pushing out the perfect squat but real women (and men) in comfy workout gear pushing out a squat through dodgy knees and an even dodgier back (and that’s just me!).
In April we celebrated our first birthday and it was so lovely to see one of our very first clients back for the 4th time with 10 of her wonderful new workout buddies with her.
The age range of this group went from 24 to 67. (oh to be 24 again!) and this weekend just proves what we say over and over again and that is fitness has no age limits.
Of the ladies that joined us some were regular gym goers and some had not exercised for years. Despite the range of fitness levels and abilities everyone put in their very best efforts.
A bunch of fantastic, like-minded people all having fun getting fit and simply enjoying time for themselves. There was a real team spirit with everyone cheering and motivating each other on and this is what makes our reboots special. Great friendships are made and the support that everyone gives each other both at reboot and after really is really something else.
Saturday sees us starting the day with our lovely morning walk and after breakfast Jake started to put everyone through their paces. The fitness sessions are broken up throughout the day with workshops from Jake on nutrition, Ann on mindset and Tracey on digestion. We also had the lovely Charlotte from In Courage Counselling doing a session with us as well.
After a hard day of working out it’s then time to relax in the hot tub and just chill with the girls.
This week we changed up the itinerary to add in a little bit of extra downtime mid-afternoon, so everyone got to chill out and re-charge ready for the next session. Liz opted to get her knitting out for her downtime. Whatever you enjoy doing to chill out is fine by us :-)
As always, we finish the day with Jake and his very popular yoga / stretching / meditation hour where you can just switch off, stretch out your muscles and float off to your happy place. BLISS!
Sunday and the girls are hard at it again. I am not sure what it is about the boxing, but it does bring out the inner beast in everyone and is probably one of the most popular sessions that we do. Amazon was pinging away as orders were going in for boxing gloves throughout the week and we have lots of fab pictures of the ladies at home working out in the garden (and the lounge) with their new purchases!
On Monday we had a new group joining us for the week and what an awesome bunch they were. None of them had ever been to anything like a reboot before and most had been off the exercise wagon for some time. They were amazing! The hard work and effort put in by all was just great. They worked with Jake and pushed themselves more than they ever thought they could. They were there for 5 days and the weather was kind to us. One of our ladies is type 2 diabetic and with clean nutrition and exercise for 5 days her blood sugars improved dramatically.
What I love about the reboots is the learning that goes on and the amount of small but significant and sustainable actions guests take away with them. Watching the shift in mindset from a “cannot” to “I absolutely can and WILL!” is amazing.
On our 5- and 7-day reboot stays we break the week up with a little trip to a local activity centre where Jake puts everyone through their paces in the gym and explains how to use the equipment. The ladies then have the option of some free time to either lounge in the pool and spa area or for the more adventurous to try a different kind of activity.
Wendy was up for this and having a parachute jump on her bucket list she opted for the indoor sky-diving and she absolutely LOVED IT!!! Gail had previously done the indoor surfing and we have had a go at the wall climbing as well.
So, for all of you lovely people reading this who are still sitting on the fence thinking can I do this the answer is absolutely YES. So just go for it.
Don’t think it through, don’t try and know everything about it. Take a leap of faith into the unknown and go with the flow because the best things in life come from the unexpected :-)
